Alsace – 2005

Bridge

There are „herbaceous” and „vivacious” camps. The „herbaceous” ones create a single work at the given place. The „vivacious” ones, however, return to the same location at least twice or on even more occasions. In this latter case it is always the third summer which proves to be the turning point. The first one is spent with getting to know each other and just taking in the whole experience. The second one is considered to be the „greatest” and the „best”. The third one is the watershed, and this is exactly what happened in Alsace, too.
After two very successful buildings even during the preparations it was somehow tangible that things had changed. Even the preconditions got worse, the financial background became uncertain. In this situation the Travelling School made a noble gesture. We financed the camp almost completely on our own expense. We thought that we had to be there by all means. So we took on a small job at the village museum. The small team was renovating the wooden structure of the buildings created in the first two years, and we also built a footbridge on the peninsula in front of the Pod. Here it wasn’t the scale of the work that mattered but the faith and our support of Marc Grodwohl. Eventually, we did not let him down.
