Near the Hungarian-Slovakian border, at the foothills of the Börzsöny, the village council of Bencebaráti has been hosting the Space_Maker design and architecture camps of the BME Department of Urban Studies for several years.

Their intention is to bring a relief to the village’s situation on the periphery by their presence and by initiating coordinated developments on both sides of the border. We have already dealt with the development of Bencebaráti, Tésa, Ipolyvisk (Slovakia), as well as the coordinated design and construction of public spaces and public objects.

The design works of the spring semester in 2012 finally took place simultaneously at two locations: besides the students of the BME, university students from Bratislava were also preparing for the summer architects’ camp, thus we could realize a real, cross-border cooperation. The Vyškovce nad Ipľom team built a theatrical stage, the one in Bencebaráti established bike stops, benches, a look-out tower, a jam-truck and a fireplace. The high-spirited joint work with the local
craftsmen resulted in the creation of new meeting-places.
