Stone Bridge Renovation
Leader: István Fülöp (instructor)
After 2005, 2007, and 2010 here we are again in Borsodgeszt, in 2012. We continue what has been more than a decade long cooperation with the village, which was established by our former dean Dr. Gábor Reischl. This year we executed an idea we shared with the local government. Along the two sides of the main street of the village there is a stream, so every home could be approached through an authentic stone bridge. The bridges are 70-80 year old broken and aged stone structures, which, however, characteristically define the outlook and the atmosphere of the village.
The most structurally weakened bridges were selected during the time of the camp, we surveyed them, then preserving the characteristic wing wall they were dismantled. After controlling and directing the stream we cast formwork onto the original stone base, and we located the already produced mould for the arch onto this. We rebuilt the bridge out of the carefully selected dismantled stones.
